Apple is developing Wireless Charging Technology for iPhones and iPads: Report

A new Bloomberg report states that Apple is currently working to develop wireless charging technology that could make its way into an iPhone by 2017. The report claims that Apple is conjunctively working with partners in the United States and Asia to develop the longer charging technology.
The wireless charging technology is said to allow iPhones and iPads to be powered from further away than current charging mat and inductive solutions allow, as per Bloomberg report.

Few other companies like Samsung have marketed wireless charging for some time, but Apple now started becoming interested in inductive technology with the Apple Watch. The magnetic charging cable that comes with every watch contains special magnets connected with a set of magnets in order to align the inductive charging elements. The system however is low power, leading to longer charging times than other Apple products.

The Wireless charging implementation for iOS devices has been suggested in recent reports claiming that as early as with the so-called “iPhone 7,” Apple will be ditching the standard 3.5mm headphone jack. In lieu of the headphone jack, the Lightning cable port serves as the available socket to convey sound output into wired headphones.

Presently, the best “wireless” charging phones don’t require a direct power connection but must be in contact with a mat or charger. If Apple can package genuine wireless charging into future products, it helps the iPhone and iPad further stand apart from competition. Potentially, it also makes life a lot easier for Apple customers, particularly if the headphone jack disappears (as per rumors) and the lightning outlet becomes open for a headphones connection.
