Facebook Messenger Monthly Active User Base Touches 800 Million

Facebook, the Social networking Leviathan, announced on Thursday Jan 7 that its Messenger app has now crossed 800 million users with more new features yet to be added to win new users.

According to Nielsen reports, Facebook Messenger was the quickest growing app in 2015 in the US with a 31% increasing users year over year. More than half of Facebook’s 1.55 billion overall users also use its Messenger app.

Eluding the carrier charges, WhatsApp was one of the first apps launched through which people can send and receive free text messages on smartphones. Messenger users can also exchange messages, but the app also offers free video calls and some business services.

The Messenger team is working on new concepts for 2016, Facebook’s PayPal executive Chudnovsky said. “Messenger now lets people make video and voice calls without requiring a phone number or even being Fb friends”. “All you need is just a name as Messenger provides that capability to find anybody by name or the name of a business,” Chudnovsky said.

Messenger has added more exciting features during the past few months, wherein users can sign up without a Fb account, make online payments, video calls and communicate directly with businesses.
