India to set up 24x7 online war room to tackle cyber threat from IS

The radical Islamist group ISIS has been trying to lure Indian Muslims to join it by spreading propaganda material in Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati and Urdu on cyber space, the Indian government is all set to create monitoring centre to eye on social media with the set up 24x7 online war room.

The government set up a committee to determine the effectiveness and blue print of setting up an online war room on 15 December to analyze social media. The committee is headed by the Secretary of Internal Security in the Home Ministry, Ashok Prasad, and consist members from the Ministry of External Affairs, central intelligence agencies and Ministry of Information Technology, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary, stated in a written reply to a parliament question on Wednesday.


Daily Mail stated that according to an Intelligence official, “Isis handlers get in contact with potential recruits on social domain sites. The susceptible ones get radicalized after interacting with ISIS participants, handlers on line and then they are given in addition instructions on the way to join the outfit”.


The Intelligence official also revealed reportedly, according to India Today, that there are 23 Indians who have so far joined the radical Islamist group ISIS, while there were several others who were intercepted before they could join Daesh in Syria. Of these, 15 Indians are still part of the group, two have returned home and six are dead.
