Xiaomi Redmi Mi 5 Release date and Specs


The latest leak from Weibo on January 12, suggest that Xiaomi Mi5 release date will be February 20 and that the device will be launched the following day. The poster also claims that Foxconn factory workers are pulling heavy overtime to prepare enough stock of the Mi5 to meet what Xiaomi predicts will be heavy demand for the device.

Liwan Jiang, the co-founder of Xiaomi has confirmed that Xiaomi Mi 5 will be unveiled in February after the Chinese Spring Festival falling on 8 February, reported GizmoChina. 


The product page said the Mi5 has a Snapdragon 820 chip along with 4 GB of RAM and a choice of 16, 64 or 128 GB of internal storage. Xiaomi was said to be hoping to include Qualcomm's Snapdragon Sense ID 3D fingerprint technology. It also looks as though the Mi5 will include 3D touch technology, allows pressure-sensitive interaction with screen. This can be used to copy text with a light press and cut with a heavier press.


It is expected to sport a 5.2-inch QHD touchscreen with 2560 x 1440 pixels screen resolution, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, and comes with white, gold and black at a price of around $399 (approximately Rs 26,500).


Under the hood, the flagship device is expected to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, 16 MP main camera with LED flash and optical Image stabilization (OIS), 8MP secondary snapper.


This speculation was dented by the Oppomart listing, which described the Mi5 as having a 20 MP rear and 8 MP front-facing camera.


In terms of connectivity, the device is also expected to support 4G-LTE network, NFC and USB Type-C interface. It is also expected to come with LED light notification feature and fingerprint censor.
Based on the leaked specs, the Xiaomi Mi5 battery is now expected to pack 3800 mAh.
