Sony Xperia C4 and C5 Ultra now on Android 5.1 Lollipop, to get Marshmallow update soon

Two days ago only Sony surprised users by releasing the update to Android 5.1 Lollipop for the Xperia C4 smartphone. And now it's time for a new handset to get the exact same treatment.

Previously the Japanese company said this device would jump from Android 5.0 straight to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with no Android 5.1update planned in between. According to Sony, the Xperia C5 Ultra was also supposed to go directly to Marshmallow. Although an update to Android 5.1 for it is now rolling out.

Xperia Blog reported that the new firmware, with build number "27.2.A.0.155" and "27.2.B.0.155", have been rolled out to Xperia C4 and its dual version, respectively.

Software with build numbers "29.1.A.0.87" and "29.1.B.0.87" are being pushed to C5 Ultra (models: 5553 & E5506) and C5 Ultra Dual (E5533 & E5563) respectively.

Check Settings>About phone>Software update to see whether the servers have a package ready for you. Sony recommends Wi-Fi, but if you have space left on your data plan, it might download over the cellular network as well. If Sony's rollout system is not fast enough, all 4 models can be updated manually via the official PC Companion tool.

Hopefully the release of these Android 5.1 updates won't delay the upcoming rollout of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for these phones.

Other recently released devices like Xperia Z3+, Z4 Table, M4 Aqua and M5 series that came with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box, are expected to get upgraded to Android v5.1 and then receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow in a few months.
